January is Poverty Awareness Month

Poverty is not a catch-phrase, it is a serious reality that many are living. More than 40 million people live below the poverty line the United States. For a family of four, that line is $24,000 a year.

Our faith invites us to respond to those who are most in need, “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

What’s life like at the poverty line? It’s one impossible choice after another – between food and medicine, getting to work or paying the heating bill. But there are ways out – community support, training, poverty awareness and more!
