Hundreds of Bishop Moore Catholic high school students recently lined up in the steamy Central Florida heat to demonstrate true selflessness. In a sea of sophomores, one after another could be seen flashing huge smiles, welcoming the stranger, and literally reaching out to those in need.
Nearly 400 teenagers helped set up and staff two mobile food drops with Catholic Charities of Central Florida Agape Mission Markets in Orlando and Winter Garden. “At Bishop Moore, we are focused on serving our communities,” said Adrianna, a member of the school’s Peer Ministry. “We are taught that we are called by God to love and serve others.”
The fruits of their labor could be easily seen. Enough fresh fruit, vegetables and canned goods for 250 families was passed out at each event with praise and thanks to God.
“My hope is that during these events, our students meet the person of Christ in the other whom they are serving,” shared Dan Boyd, director of Campus Ministry. “It is in making themselves a gift to others that they find their true self.”
