ORLANDO  |  Margueritte “Maggie” Carrick is the 2026 Catholic Charities of Central Florida Volunteer of the Year. An instrumental team member of the St. Isaac Jogues Parish food pantry since 2023, “she has consistently offered her very best in service to others, both within the parish at large and throughout the wider community through the food pantry,” said Sonia Rivera, volunteer leader at St. Isaac Jogues food pantry.

Carrick said she got involved in the food pantry because she wanted something she could do with her husband. “Once we got involved in the food pantry, it was a blessing,” she said. Speaking of her fellow volunteers she added, “We make it fun. We get here early, we do our thing, and it’s a great feeling.”

According to Rivera, Carrick is an example of the pillars of stewardship, sharing her time, talent and treasure. Arriving at least two hours before the pantry opens and remaining until every closing task is complete, her commitment extends to every aspect of the ministry: weighing and sorting donations, preparing food baskets, organizing volunteer information, and stepping in wherever help is needed.

A true self starter, Carrick recognizes what needs to be done and acts without hesitation. “Her initiative and enthusiasm are contagious, inspiring fellow volunteers to give their best. She continually seeks innovative ways to improve pantry operations, making the most of the resources available,” Rivera said. “Her years of experience across various parish ministries, combined with her leadership and can-do attitude make her an invaluable problem solver — especially in moments of high demand.”

Carrick also played a key role in designing the distribution plan for the parish’s Thanksgiving meal baskets, helping serve more than 125 families.

Carrick’s service often extends beyond pantry hours — checking the parish food donation box, relocating items to the pantry, and ensuring everything is ready when the pantry opens. Her consistency and sense of responsibility beautifully reflect the gift of time.

Because of her reliability and leadership, she is often entrusted with overseeing pantry operations in the absence of the lead volunteer. Carrick’s presence across multiple ministries emphasizes her familiar and respected example of service for parishioners and the community alike.

“St. Isaac Jogues is truly blessed to have her as an active, dependable, and inspiring member of this ministry,” Rivera said. “She embodies what it means to serve the Lord by serving His people. Her generosity, humility, and unwavering dedication make her profoundly deserving of this recognition.”

These character traits are reflected in how Carrick feels about the work she does. “You leave here full. Your heart is full of love, full of joy. It doesn’t matter what the job is.”
