Experience a day focused on Suicide Awareness and Healing this March 18, 2023, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. Registration begins at 8 am with Mass at 9:00 am. The day will start with the Celebration of Mass . Learn from counselors and ministers how to help individuals and family members impacted by suicidal thoughts and actions as well as the Church’s teaching on this topic. Hear about plans to develop ministries to assist in addressing this issue. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will also be available. This Conference is offered by the Diocese of Orlando’s Office of Laity and Life and Catholic Charities of Central Florida. Featured Speakers: Father Chris Alar, MIC, is the Provincial Superior of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy Province of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception in the United States and Argentina. He is the author of the bestselling books After Suicide: There’s Hope for Them and for You, as well as Understanding Divine Mercy. He is host of the EWTN show Living Divine Mercy, which airs on Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. EST. Deacon Ed Shoener was ordained a permanent deacon in 2004 and serves at St. Peter’s Cathedral in the Diocese of Scranton. Shoener is a founding member of the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers. He, along with family and friends, founded “The Katie Foundation” after his daughter, Kathleen, died by suicide in 2016. Katie’s obituary went viral because it spoke to the needs and concerns of people who live with mental illness.
