“When we arrived, we had a hard time with the process for me to start high school. The school did not want to register me. The school requested certain classes from me, that I did not have. Thanks to the Catholic Charities staff, they were able to help me with the school situation. Maria helped me obtain my school grades from my previous schools in order to be able to get into the school system. A lot of people have this problem when they come here and try to start school. Catholic Charities has been very beneficial for me. Thank God! They helped me get into the school system and get into a great English [ESOL] program. Now that I have started school, I feel really good to be here. Since I have good grades, the school is helping me with additional English classes which is what I really need right now. I have 4 English classes, and whenever I need additional help, or some paperwork filled out, they are always there to help me. I would like to say that I am grateful that Catholic Charities greatly helps immigrants and other people as well.” Jeniffer and her family left Cuba and moved to Costa Rica before they were able to come to the United States. Thanks to the diligence of the team from Catholic Charities of Central Florida’s Comprehensive Refugee Services, she was able to get registered for school here.
